Words are powerful… use that power

When someone tells you "You should do this" or "You have to do this" our initial reaction is to fight back because as humans we don't like being told what to do. Some people may dislike it more than others, but no one likes it. If your boss said “You have to come in this weekend to work” it would piss you off more that if your boss said “Would you be willing to come into work this weekend to help out?”
It doesn’t sit well for most of us when people talk to us like that, so why do we talk to ourselves like that? Chances are it hasn’t been long since you told yourself “You should have done ____” or “You have to get better at___”. This might sound strange but next time you do something you aren't happy about, instead of saying something like "I should have gone to the gym" or "I have to eat better" try saying something like "I chose not to go to the gym today because I____” or "I chose to eat that birthday cake at work because I ____.” I know a lot of you are thinking “But it wasn’t my choice I got stuck at work!” Well… the truth is, ultimately, it was. When you accept this, it will allow you to: A) Take responsibility for yourself - which is the first step in getting to where you want to be. B) Uncover our true frustrations - A Lot of the time we don't know why we are frustrated and we get mad at ourselves or blame our situation and say things like "I couldn't make it to the gym or make a healthy dinner because my job sucks". Imagine if you rephrased the sentence by saying "I chose to miss the gym because I prioritize working/my career over my health". That allows you to really look at your life and see if your needs are being met AND it gives you a glimpse at what you need to do to fix it. If going to the gym and being healthy is REALLY important to you, you need to treat it like it is important to you! Tell your boss “Hey I really need to take care of myself better. I value this job and want to keep doing good work here, but I need to be out by 5pm everyday so I can get to the gym and make myself a healthy dinner.” If you aren’t in a job that supports your needs, then it might be time to start looking for a place that does. There are a ton of amazing companies out there and chances are if you are a CrossFitter you know how to work hard and are a huge asset to your company. The point is that without changing the way you talk to yourself, you are going to have a hard time living the life that you desire.
